Risers & Tubing Swing Pipe Coil (Funny Pipe)
Flexible LDPE swing pipe — bend it to reach any head, cut it to any length.
Swing pipe — almost everyone calls it funny pipe — is the flexible tubing at the heart of every swing joint. Molded from LDPE, it bends at sharp angles without restricting flow, which is exactly what makes it the flexible core of a swing joint: it lets you route from the lateral line to a sprinkler head precisely where the head needs to sit, then absorbs the shock of mowers, foot traffic, and vehicles instead of transmitting that impact back to the rigid PVC line below. Where a hard fitting would crack, the pipe simply flexes and recovers.
This 100-foot coil of ½” tubing measures about .690” outside diameter by .490” inside diameter — dimensions that pair it with the standard funny-pipe insert fittings and Marlex street ells used throughout the trade. Because the pipe ships as a continuous coil rather than fixed lengths, you cut each run to suit the job: a short stub where the head sits close to the lateral, a longer loop where you need slack to reposition a head later without re-trenching. One coil covers dozens of heads, and you carry only the fittings you actually use rather than stocking every pre-made assembly size.
That same .690” × .490” geometry makes this coil dimensionally compatible with Rain Bird SPX-FLEX-100 / SWGP100 swing pipe, so it drops into existing systems and accepts the same insert fittings without adapters. (Innovative Plastics is an independent manufacturer; Rain Bird is named only to describe fit, and no affiliation or endorsement is implied.) If you already have funny-pipe fittings and Marlex ells on the truck, this coil is the consumable that ties them together.
New to building with it? Read what is funny pipe? for the basics, then follow our guide to building a swing joint to put the coil to work — insert an ell at each end, thread one side into the lateral fitting and the other into the head, and flex the pipe to position. It’s part of our Risers & Tubing line; if you’d rather skip the assembly step entirely, our pre-assembled swing joint assemblies arrive ready to install.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- What is swing pipe (funny pipe)?
- Swing pipe — commonly called funny pipe — is flexible LDPE tubing used to connect a lateral line to a sprinkler head. It bends at sharp angles without disrupting flow, so you can position heads precisely and absorb impact.
- What are the dimensions of the coil?
- The coil is 100 feet of ½" tubing measuring approximately .690" outside diameter by .490" inside diameter, which pairs with standard funny-pipe fittings and Marlex street ells.
- Why buy the coil instead of pre-made swing joints?
- Buying the coil plus funny-pipe fittings and Marlex ells lets you assemble swing joints to any length on site, which is often more economical and flexible than stocking fixed assemblies.
- Is this compatible with other brands of swing pipe?
- Yes. It serves the same purpose as common swing-pipe coils such as Rain Bird SPX-FLEX-100 / SWGP100 and works with standard funny-pipe insert fittings.
