Poly Cut-Off Risers

A cut-off riser is a threaded polyethylene nipple you trim to the exact height a sprinkler head needs. This one measures ½” × 6” and is threaded on both ends, so it screws into the supply fitting below and accepts the spray or rotor head above without adapters or tape gymnastics. What sets it apart from a plain fixed nipple is the way it is molded: stepped sections run the length of the body, giving you clean cut points to shorten the riser on site. A single part therefore covers a wide range of conditions — instead of carrying a different fixed nipple for every depth and grade, you stock one riser and trim it to match whatever the ground gives you.

Setting a head at the right grade height matters more than it first appears. A head that sits too low gets buried and blocked by turf; one that stands too proud is a trip hazard and a target for mowers. Because the poly cut-off riser is cut to length, the installer dials in the exact elevation each location calls for, whether the head sits flush in a level lawn or has to reach up out of a planting bed. That same flexibility makes the part forgiving in the field: if grade shifts between rough-in and finish work, the riser is simply trimmed a little shorter rather than swapped out.

The polyethylene the riser is molded from is what makes it hold up underground and at the surface. It resists impact, so it survives backfill, foot traffic, and the occasional mower strike that would crack a brittle fitting, and it resists corrosion and moisture, so it will not rust or degrade in wet, mineral-laden soil over years of buried service. The threaded ends thread quickly and seal reliably, keeping installation fast for crews working through a system head by head. The ½” × 6” size is stocked by the case for contractors and distributors who set many heads at once.
