HDPE Butt Fusion Service Saddles
A butt fusion service saddle is a molded HDPE fitting whose curved base is heat-fused onto the wall of an HDPE pipe, creating a permanent branch outlet — ours carry a ½" FNPT female thread for aeration diffuser drops and small service taps.
Innovative Plastics molds butt fusion service saddles with a rectangle base and a ½" FNPT (female NPT) threaded outlet, sized for 4", 6", 8", and 10" HDPE pipe. The saddle base is contoured to the pipe diameter and joins with standard butt-fusion tooling: heat the base and the pipe crown, press them together, and the saddle becomes a monolithic part of the pipe wall — no clamps, gaskets, or electrofusion processor required.
The ½" female thread accepts a threaded drop or riser, which makes these saddles the standard lateral tap in HDPE aeration systems — fine-bubble diffuser laterals in wastewater lagoons and pond aeration — as well as a general-purpose small service tap on HDPE pipelines. Most off-the-shelf threaded saddles are electrofusion parts; a molded butt-fusion saddle with an FNPT outlet in these sizes is a niche fitting that Innovative Plastics produces in volume, made in the USA.
All four sizes ship by the case and can be added to a quote request directly from the product page. Volume and OEM pricing is available for aeration system builders and distributors.
HDPE butt fusion saddles at a glance
The HDPE fittings line covers fused branch connections: butt fusion service saddles heat-fuse onto the crown of an HDPE pipe to create a permanent threaded outlet for aeration laterals and small service taps.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- What is a butt fusion service saddle?
- A butt fusion service saddle is a molded HDPE fitting with a curved base that is heat-fused onto the outside wall of an HDPE pipe, creating a permanent leak-free branch outlet. Innovative Plastics saddles have a rectangle base and a ½" FNPT threaded outlet for connecting drops, risers, or diffuser laterals.
- How is a butt fusion saddle different from an electrofusion saddle?
- A butt fusion saddle joins with standard butt-fusion heating tools — heat the saddle base and the pipe crown, then press them together. An electrofusion saddle contains embedded heating wire and requires an electrofusion processor. Butt fusion saddles need no special processor and no embedded hardware.
- What pipe sizes do the saddles fit?
- Innovative Plastics butt fusion service saddles are molded for 4", 6", 8", and 10" HDPE pipe, each with a ½" FNPT female threaded outlet. See the part-number table on the product page.
